Episodes 1-4
Septimus Harding, warden of Hiram's hospital is accused of corruption, and The Archdeacon leaps to his defence in The Warden. Following the death of the old Bishop, the Proudies and Mr Slope arrive in Barchester determined to introduce new ways.
Episodes 5-7
The battle for ascendancy within the barchester clergy rages, with the odious Mr Slope's manoeuvreing to serve his own ambition, and open warfare developing between Mrs Proudie and The Archdeacon.
