Father of Mary Thorne, and brother of Dr. Thorne. A black sheep whose conduct forced his relatives to close Ullathome to him, and so brought about a coldness between Dr. Thorne and the Ullathorne family.
He seduced Mary Scatcherd, and was killed by her brother Roger.
