An elderly town-clerk in the Nuremberg magistrate's office, who had lived for years as a roomer in the home of Linda Tressel and who finally decided to own the house through marriage with its owner. Linda hated him and, to avoid marrying him, eloped with his scapegrace young cousin Ludovic Valcarm. When Ludovic was arrested before the marriage could take place and Linda returned home alone, Peter repudiated her as being unfit to be his wife.
