A wealthy but morose and self-centered man, representing a Scotch group of boroughs in Parliament. Although Lady Laura Standish was in love with Phineas Finn when she married Mr. Kennedy, she felt that her social and political ambitions could best be served as his wife. She soon found him so despotic and unreasonable that she returned to her father. Believing that Phineas Finn was responsible for his wife's action he quarreled with and tried to murder him. He was taken back to Loughlinter where he became quite mad, and soon died.
