A young English sculptor, who had been brought up in Rome by a disreputable but artistically successful sculptor father. When he fell in love with Lucy Dormer, he was too proud to accept help from Lucy's uncle Sir Thomas Tringle, so they could marry. Sir Thomas however, provided a generous dot for Lucy that made their marriage possible.
