The heir of Sir Thomas, the question of whose succession to the title forms the main plot of Castle Richmond. An Oxford graduate, eager to fit himself for his place in the country, he organized soup kitchens for the famine sufferers, and built a mill to grind corn for them. After the cloud on his name was cleared away, he married Lady Clara Desmond.
