Wife of the Colonel, and the subject of malicious gossip in the neighborhood of Belton Cottage. As a young wornan she had married Jack Berdmore, a drunkard who abused her. She left him in company with Colonel Askerton, but Jack would not divorce her, and her marriage was postponed until after he drank himself to death. Her only intimate friend was Clara Amedroz.
